The KZX Engine is our original in-house proprietary game engine, which we began developing back in 2015 when SanForge Studio was still known as "Grand Dog Studio." At the time, we created the KZX Engine primarily as a way to experiment and better understand the workings of game development rather than actually make games with it, the experiments were diving into key areas such as physics simulations, graphics rendering, mathematical calculations, and shader creation. It was a very valuable learning tool for us, providing a hands on approach to how these complex systems interacted a digital game environment. Over the years, the engine grew into a fairly robust tool set, and we were able to produce some great results with it.
However, as the technology in the gaming industry rapidly evolved with
better tools like the Unreal Engine, the maintenance in keeping
the outdated KZX Engine began to rise. Bug fixes, compatibility updates, and implementing modern
features became increasingly more time consuming and difficult, demanding
more resources and time than we initially want. Therefor we
decommissioned the KZX Engine, however we do have plans to make a new and more modern engine that would serve a better purpose and for us to make games with as well.
Nonetheless,
the KZX Engine remains a significant and important part of our studio's
history, marking the beginning of our journey into software and game
development.
